Bambajan Bishop is an African-American man who had previously been a drug dealer and associate of the Southside Crips. He was in county jail in 2019 for a probation violation. He met Mickey Haller there. His mother is from the Ivory Coast and his first name is from his maternal grandfather. He prefers to go by the name Bishop. While both men were in jail, Bishop provided protection to Haller for $100 per week. When Bishop and Haller both got out, he began to do driving for Haller for $200 per week.
