The house known as the Earthquake House was located on Wrightwood Drive in the Hollywood Hills. It was of cantilever-style construction with a large window-wall providing a view of the San Fernando Valley. It was seriously damaged in the Northridge earthquake and abandoned by its owners. Later, the FBI took control of the house, fixed the structural issues, and used it in sting operation.
At the conclusion of the Poet case, Bob Backus took Jack McEvoy there supposedly to set a trap for Rachel Walling. Once there, Backus threatened to kill McEvoy. Walling appeared and shot Backus who fell through a broken window onto the slope below the house.
