Elvin Kidd (b. 1957) was a member of the Rollin 60's Crips from the 1970's to the 1990's. He rose to the position of neighborhood shot caller in the gang. He was with the gang in 1990 when John Hilton was murdered on Kidd's turf. He spent some time at Corcoran State Prison where he met Hilton. They had a sexual relationship while in the prison, but after Kidd was released he wanted to leave all that behind. If other gang members suspected Kidd of having a homosexual relationship, it would have severely weakened his power within the gang.
When Hilton was released he contacted Kidd to renew their relationship. Kidd knew Hilton could be a big problem for him and he had to take some action. In 1990 he lured Hilton into an alley and shot him in the head. The hit was well planned and the police had little evidence to go on. In addition, the investigation was hampered by a police cover up. As a result, Kidd was never a suspect.
At some point he left the gangster life, married, and moved to Rialto. He started a fairly successful construction company. However, he maintained his gang ties from a distance.
In 2019 he was disturbed to learn that the investigation into Hilton's murder was being reopened and that the police intended to question him. He put the blame on a former gang associate, Dennard Dorsey. for leading the police to him. He used an intermediary, Marcel Dupree, to order a hit on Dorsey. The hit was prevented by Renee Ballard. A tactical team was assembled to arrest Kidd at his home. Although Kidd was taken alive, his wife was shot and killed by police. Kidd was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
