Gabriela Lida was a Latina activist and artist in the San Diego region in the late 1960's. In 1969 she met Dominick Santanello at the Surfrider bar in Oceanside while he was stationed at Camp Pendleton. She was one of the artists who worked on the murals at Chicano Park in Barrio Logan, and she encouraged him to get in touch with his heritage. He was interested although his adopted family was Italian-American and he had never learned to speak Spanish. They began a romantic relationship. She was slightly older than him. Gabriela became pregnant shortly before Dominick was deployed to Viet Nam. They kept their relationship secret but had an informal wedding ceremony on the beach at Coronado. While Dominick was in Viet Nam, Gabriela gave birth to a girl whom she named Vibiana after Dominick's birth mother. When Dominick was killed in Viet Nam, Gabriela did not seek help from Dominick's family out of concern that a custody battle might ensue.
In October 2016 she was located by Harry Bosch who was searching for an heir to the estate of Whitney Vance. At that time she was approximately 70 years of age but still beautiful. After some initial hesitation, she told Bosch where her daughter lived in L.A.
