Hayden Morris is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of California. In 2023 he was assigned to argue against the Habeas Corpus motion filed in federal court by Mickey Haller on behalf of Lucinda Sanz. In prosecuting this case he relied heavily on the evidence against Sanz from her original prosecution, particularly the gunshot residue testing. He was either unaware or unconcerned about new evidence being uncovered by Haller. Most importantly he discounted the possibility that corrupt members of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department were involved in the murder of Roberto Sanz and the cover-up of that crime.

During the hearing he asked Maggie McPherson to assist. He claimed that she was a specialist in telecommunications issues, but it is more likely that he wanted her to intimidate Haller and Harry Bosch.
