"Homicide Special" is an exclusive short-story written by Michael Connelly, featuring LAPD detective Harry Bosch. In the story, Bosch is in the LAPD Homicide Special section of RHD and travels to Richmond, California to meet with Sarah Lowell of the DNA unit of the state Department of Justice lab. It is against protocol, but Bosch feels he needs an immediate answer on a swab he took from the crime scene of the murder of a sixteen-year-old girl, Brittany Gaston. She had left her window open while she slept at night and her twin sister was sleeping right across the hall and did not awaken.
The story was only published in 2011 in special editions of The Drop that were sold in Waterstone's book stores in the UK.
