John O'Grady was an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's organized crime task force, based at the Los Angeles field office.

In September of 1996, he attended a meeting with LAPD detective Harry Bosch concerning the allegations that Bosch had planted evidence to frame an undercover agent for the murder of Anthony Aliso. O'Grady was convinced that Bosch had planted the gun in order to solidify the case against Luke Goshen who was the prime suspect at that time. O'Grady's suspicions were based on the fact that Goshen was actually an undercover FBI agent.
