Karen Carver is the mother of Wesley Carver.
She was an exotic dancer who used the stage name "L.A. Woman" and danced exclusively to music by The Doors. She often brought her son to work with her. While she was performing she would entrust Wesley to other dancers or bar employees. She later suffered from a degenerative bone disease that threatened her career. Because of this, she wore leg braces (also known as Iron Maidens) when not performing. Her son was sometimes required to assist his mother in putting on the braces, and he developed a pathological fixation on the apparatus from this experience.
As her condition worsened she was confined to a wheelchair and lived in a long-term care facility in Bakersfield, CA. She was interviewed by Jack McEvoy in July of 2009 to obtain background information for his book about her son.
