Kensington Landy was the husband of Regina Landy and the stepfather of Sarah and Melissa Landy. After the murder of Melissa in 1986 he began drinking heavily. In 2004 he was involved in a traffic collision in which he ran a stop sign, hit another car causing injuries, and then fled the scene. He was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run. A DNA sample was taken from him at that time.
He later died of liver failure brought on by alcoholism. In 2009 it was determined that a semen stain on a dress worn by his step-daughters matched Landy's DNA. This resulted in the invalidation of the murder conviction of Jason Jessup.
