Marvin Webster is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. He is initially seen as a patrol officer in Rampart Division. He diligently informs Detective Harry Bosch whenever serial murder suspect Ed Gunn is arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour. Following Gunn's death he relays his involvement with informing Bosch about his arrests to Jerry Edgar.
He is promoted to detective and reassigned to Newton Division. He works with Detective Santiago "Jimmi" Robertson investigating the murder of Charles Fagan.
