Peter and Paul Nguyen owned Nelson Grant Jewelers in Beverly Hills. The store had been started by their father who also came up with the name. Under the father's management the store did reasonably well, but after he died and the two sons took over it became much more profitable. The reason for their success was that they would buy high-end merchandise with questionable provenance at a deep discount.
In December 2014 they bought a woman's Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks Offshore watch from corrupt detectives Ellis and Long. A short time later they sold the watch to Vincent Harrick for his wife, Lexi. She called them a few months later to say that the crystal had become cracked. They referred her to the Audemars Piguet service center in Las Vegas. About a week later she called the Nguyen brothers again to say that the service center believed her watch had been stolen. The Nguyen brothers contacted Ellis and Long, reporting that their might be a problem with the watch. After Harry Bosch showed up asking a lot of tough questions, Ellis and Long killed the brothers before they could talk.
