Nick Riley is a corrupt Los Angeles Police Department officer. He works as a hit man for Carl Nash. Nash is a retired detective and the leader of a ring of corrupt officers which includes Riley, Maureen O'Grady, Eddie Arceneaux and Bernardo Piccinini.
Riley carries out the murder of Tony Allen on orders from Nash. O'Grady pretends to have broken down in order to cause Allen to stop his car, while Riley hides nearby. As Allen approaches O'Grady, Riley steps out and shoots him in the back of the head.
Riley murders George Irving at the convenience store on orders from Nash, after Nash discovers that George is working for the Internal Affairs Division.
Riley murders Arceneaux as an investigation begins to close in on him.
Riley and Piccinini are killed in a shoot out with detectives Harry Bosch and Jerry Edgar, while O'Grady survives to testify about George's murder, Carl Nash and Veronica Allen.
