Quentin "Sugar Ray McK" McKinzie (d. 2003) was a jazz musician who performed alongside Art Pepper, and was a friend of Harry Bosch. They originally met during the Viet Nam war when McKinzie performed with the Bob Hope Tour during the Christmas season of 1969. McKinzie played saxophone, Bosch's favorite instrument. Later, when Bosch was in the LAPD, McKinzie's sax was stolen and Bosch recovered it.
By the early 2000s, McKinzie was living at the Splendid Age Retirement Home, and meeting with Bosch twice a week to give the retired detective saxophone lessons.
