Robert Verloren was the husband of Muriel Verloren and the father of Rebecca Verloren, and a resident of Chatsworth in Los Angeles.
He was a chef who owned and operated the Island House Grill. After the murder of his daughter, he and his wife divorced, and he descended into alcoholism. He eventually recovered, becoming a born-again Christian and taking a job as the morning cook at the Metro Shelter soup kitchen.
After the arrest of his daughter's killer in the Spring of 2005, Verloren was arrested for public drunkenness under the name of Robert Light. While in prison, he volunteered to work in the kitchen where he used the opportunity to stab and kill the man who had murdered Rebecca. His weapon was a shiv made of a sharpened spoon.
